Our Mission

We're on a mission to provide safe, supportive, fun, and empowering spaces for changemakers. We foster profound and lasting connections, nurture wellbeing, and enable peer-learning and meaningful collaborations so that changemakers may create, sustain and scale positive change.

Our Activities

To fulfill our mission we currently run activities across three key pillars

Community

Through the »ChangemakerXchange Community« we reach and work directly with ± 1000 changemakers across 130 countries globally. New members join via our flagship summits, a unique experience of connecting, co-learning and collaboration with other social innovators from around the world. This is followed by ongoing, and life-long, community engagement, capacity building and support for their work.

Facilitation

Through our »Facilitators for Change« program, we trained 65 members of the community to be world-class facilitators. They now facilitate our summits and accompany other networks of changemakers in their work. Building on our learnings from working with hundreds of social innovators we also trained over 150 civil society leaders in the facilitation skills needed to create spaces for collective impact.

Ecosystem

Through »The Possibilists« we work towards aligning the support ecosystem around a shared understanding of the needs and challenges of young changemakers and to create the best possible conditions for them to thrive and to deepen or scale their impact.

Anouk is the Finance & Operations Lead at ChangemakerXchange. During her studies with a focus on Political Economics of Energy and Climate Change, she intensively explored the issue of overproduction. After an active time as a foodsaver in the foodsharing movement, she spent three years at SIRPLUS, which works to combat food waste.

Matthias ScheffelmeierCore Team

Matthias Scheffelmeier is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of ChangemakerXchange. He also was, until recently and for more than 11 years, a Partner at Ashoka Germany, Co-Founder of Ashoka Turkey and a Member of Ashoka Europe's regional leadership team. Beyond that he's been contributing to the social impact eco-system in Germany and Europe as Founding Board Member of the Social Entrepreneurship Netzwerk Deutschland (SEND). Matthias also is a Member of the global board at MasterPeace. He lives in Berlin with his wife and son.

Miriam SweeneyCore Team

Miriam is working on programmes and projects at CXC, working across a majority of our activities, connecting the dots and finding synergies. She has spent the past 3 years at a startup accelerator & hub in Ireland where she working as a community lead, managing mentoring & incubator programmes, as an impact lead working on ecosystem growth, economic development & diversity & inclusion. While she comes from a startup/commercial background, her passion has always been in impact & social innovation. She's one of the leaders of an activism campaign based in Ireland called Reclaim Our Spaces, working to halt the unbalanced urban development and showcase examples of successfully reclaimed community & cultural spaces.

Nick is the Co-founder and Co-Managing Director of ChangemakerXchange. His background straddles multiple countries and has been at the intersection of social innovation and education. Including; • Re-launching Ashoka in Turkey and building an alliance of organisations aiming to transform education in the country. • Launching Ashoka Europe's education initiative and building a continental network of 'Changemaker Schools'. • Working on one of the world's first social impact bonds programmes with young offenders in London for Catch 22. • Setting up new programmes and partnerships in Kenya and India while developing the first pilot of the International Citizen Service for the UK Department for International Development, a flagship program to reimagine overseas volunteering.

He is a digital development advocate with over 5 years of experience using digital media as a tool to promote issues around population, health, and environment in Africa. Mubarak is also an inaugural fellow of the Community Engagement Exchange (CEE) program, a professional leadership development training supported by IREX and the US Department of State.

Our values

Our values and purpose statements ​were co-created with our ​whole community.

Where others see competition, we see collaboration. We align our goals and share resources to build on each other’s impact and catalyse systemic change.

We trust each other with our opinions and feelings, and we sometimes tell the untold about changemaking. We know that what we share with the community stays there.

We share thoughts and emotions fearlessly and welcome our differences wholeheartedly. We can be our real, vulnerable selves.

We actively care for our own wellbeing and are there for those around us. We care for their wellbeing and try to help out whenever we can.

We recognise the importance of creativity and fun to ignite positive change through the work we carry out.

Our activities

GATHERINGS

​We host unique, intensive and intimate 4-day “unconference” gatherings in nature, focused on human connection, peer learning, wellbeing and collaboration.​​

Community

Participants then become part of a global community of 800+ like-minded souls, who learn and share together. ​​

Capacity

​We empower the community with tools and knowledge on system change, wellbeing and impact orientation through a hybrid combination of physical and virtual gatherings​.

COLLABORATION

We give funds and guidance for the community to develop high impact cross-border collaborations which deepen the impact of their initiatives and spread the spirit of changemaking far and wide.​​

OWNERSHIP

We implement a decentralised, non-hierarchical organisational model in which the community of young people have a say in all strategic decisions of the organisation.
